The night before I learned his spirit and body were freed apart,
I had a dream I saw him at the Manhattan Beach skatepark
Looking content over the land of the many joys he shared,
Darreck Burns forever in the Beach city air

We gather together to celebrate the light of an everlasting flame
Family man, unforgettable friend, high priest of the shred,
Darreck's warmth remains

Bearer of the SECRET
From day 1 of his earth run he kicked and pushed to fly
Sharer of the SECRET
Like a big brother to his nephew teaching him to skate by the age of 5
His spirit is alive

He was the sixth grader tré-flipping a six stair
Far cooler than most while befriending the lone-strayers
A true hearted pier rat, singer of a skate punk band
Humble and warm while more hardcore than all the punks in the land

There was not a face on which Darreck couldn't raise a smile
He could catch a peanut thrown by a friend from a mile
Just to make us laugh 'cause he's a silly sweet soul like that
Everywhere that Darreck went became the place the party at

He united Beach cities with his band SECRET
Playing shows and composing with legendary might
'Cause he knows the SECRET
